Do i have to get the divorce?

ive been married 16 years, and my husband has done his share of things i should of divorced him for. i wrote my ex husband of 20 yrs ago (hed been in prison) and told him i forgive him and will always care we have 2 kids together. i never sent the letter but husband found it he says he cant get over it and its been 2 months vd he came over and i asked him straight up if he wanted a divorce he said no. than 2 days later he text me he does. i love him and know he loves me and am not sure hes just saying it or really is going to file . but if he does can i ask the judge to order counselings or do i have to get the divorce? and if i have to can i ask for maintains support that's what its called in texas please someone with a heart give some advice here
